The HRC offers lessons in English disciplines starting with beginners and going through novice dressage and intermediate jumping.
Our group lessons are offered in classes of 4-6 students on our own herd of Hoofer horses. Many instructors also offer private lessons to club members on the Hoofer horses. As a club member, you may schedule private or semi-private lessons by contacting an instructor to set up a time. HRC offers riding opportunities to members for both group and private lessons, as well as trail rides or ring rides. To take lessons on a Hoofer Horse you must be a club member (click here to join!).
Lessons are held at the Hoofer Equestrian Center at 1008 Severson Road in Belleville, WI. Visit the HRC Calendar for specific lesson times. Transportation is not provided. (One option for those without transportation is to rent a community car. Several are conveniently located on and near campus.) You should plan to get to your lesson 30 minutes early to groom and tack your horse. Also plan on an additional 15-30 minutes after your lesson to untack and cool down your horse. Please contant the Lesson Coordinator to sign up for lessons or to have lesson-related questions answered.
To join the HRC, you can attend a Hoofer Kickoff, stop by the Hoofer Office at the Memorial Union or simply click on the link to the right that says 'Become a Hoofer'! Kickoffs are held at the beginning of each academic semester and are a great way to get acquainted with the club!
Lesson fees for the full seesion of lessons should be paid at or before the first lesson meeting of that session. Exceptions may be made with the consent of your instructor and the club treasurer. If you cannot pay your lesson fees at or before the first lesson in the session, and you have not made payment arrangements with your instructor and the club treasurer, your spot may be given to another student. Please understand that the club and team are non-profit organizations, and count on lesson fees to house and maintain the horses and pay the instructors.
If lessons are cancelled by the instructor, you will get a scheduled make-up lesson, make-up coupon, or a refund. If you miss a lesson due to personal reasons, your instructor will give you a make-up coupon that will expire at the end of the semester. You can use the coupon at a scheduled make-up lesson, try to participate in another class of the same level, or use the coupon towards a private lesson. If you sign up for lessons, but then need to cancel your lessons, you will only receive a refund if your spot can be filled in that lesson.
