Hoofer Youth Equestrian Experiences

Perfect for birthday parties, youth groups, Scout troops!

These youth experiences include an overview of horse behavior and horse care, and a short English riding lesson for each participant. The riding lesson will be given on a lunge line, which allows the Hoofer instructor to maintain control of the horse while providing instruction appropriate to the rider’s skill level.

A Hoofers riding instructor and one or more riding club volunteers will conduct the experience.

Cost:

  • $15 per participant for a one-and-a-half-hour group experience
  • $20 per participant for a two-hour group experience, appropriate for larger groups or groups wishing to have more extensive instruction in horsemanship for Scout badges, etc. (Please provide any specific requests or requirements when scheduling.)

Requirements:
  • Participants must be 6 years of age or older.
  • We require a minimum payment of $150, the equivalent of 10 participants. (You may have less than 10 participants, however.)
  • A completed contract must be returned to the Hoofers office within five business days after the event has been scheduled.
  • We must receive a down payment of $50 to hold the date. Your deposit is refundable if cancellation is received at least 48 hours before the scheduled event.
  • Each participant must provide a signed waiver form (signed by parents or guardians if under 18) on or before the date of the event.
  • Each participant must wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. (Hiking boots or dress loafers are preferable to sneakers.)

To schedule:
Contact the Youth Programs Coordinator at least two weeks before you’d like to schedule the youth experience. When an instructor has been scheduled and your date confirmed, you will be sent the contract to complete and return to the Hoofer Office. Upon receipt of the contract and the $50 down payment, we will send you the waiver forms for parents to sign and an instruction sheet to give to participants.

My Favorite Horse Book!
Andi and Maria

Hoofer Riding Head of Instruction Andi Bill’s (right) favorite horse book is Misty of Chincoteague by Marguerite Henry, first published in 1947.

Riding Club Treasurer Maria Hernandez (left) loved this book so much that she wrote to Marguerite Henry when she was a girl. Marguerite Henry wrote her back!

After you read this book, you can take a quiz, or read more about the Chincoteague ponies.
